Interac e-TransferMost people who play at a regulated Ontario casino do it on a phone. No surprise there. What does surprise people is how much the experience changes from brand to brand: some have polished native apps with tens of thousands of store reviews, one has no iPhone app at all, and another asks Android owners to install a file straight from its website. This guide to mobile casinos in Ontario is about those differences, using App Store and Google Play ratings we pulled on 26 October 2026.
The cards above show the ten operators we rank highest for phone play. Below is the context the cards can't fit. For the full list of regulated brands, start from our Ontario casinos home page.
Every operator in the iGaming Ontario market runs a mobile website. You open Safari or Chrome, log in, play. Nothing to install, nothing to update, nothing eating storage. For someone who plays a few evenings a month, that's often all they need.
Apps earn their spot in other ways. They remember your login with Face ID or a fingerprint, they tend to handle the location check more smoothly, and the lobby loads faster once the app is on the phone. Push notifications are a mixed blessing, and plenty of players switch them off on day one.
In practice, the differences people run into look like this:
Our take: if you play at one casino regularly, install its app. If you're still comparing two or three, stay in the browser until you've made up your mind.
These are Canada-wide ratings from the Apple App Store and Google Play, not Ontario-only scores. A single buggy update can knock a casino app down half a star in a week, so read the table as a snapshot.
| Brand | iOS rating | Android rating | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| DraftKings Casino | 4.7 (~7,500 ratings) | 4.7 | Best pair of scores in our sample |
| FanDuel Casino | 4.7 (~19,000) | 4.6 | One wallet with the sportsbook and PokerStars |
| BetMGM | 4.6 (~40,500) | 4.3 | Biggest review base; sports and poker are separate apps |
| Betway | 4.7 (~16,700) | 4.3 | Dedicated casino app |
| bet365 | 4.4 (~3,000) | 4.0 | Casino app is separate from the sportsbook app |
| Caesars Palace Online Casino | 4.5 (~1,500) | 4.4 | Small gap between stores |
| Spin Casino | 4.6 (~2,300) | 4.2 | Same publisher as Jackpot City and Royal Vegas |
| Jackpot City | 4.5 (~25,600) | 4.0 | Second-largest iOS review count here |
| Royal Vegas | 4.5 (~570) | No Google Play listing | Android via APK from the site |
| theScore Casino | 4.7 (~1,600) | 3.3 | Standalone casino app since April 2025 |
| 888casino | 4.3 (~7,500) | 4.0 | |
| PlayOJO | 4.0 (~4,400) | 3.2 | |
| BetVictor | 4.7 (~4,600) | 2.3 | Widest gap between the two stores |
| LeoVegas | 3.0 (~70) | 3.7 | New iOS app in 2026, few ratings so far |
| PowerPlay | 3.7 (~110) | 3.6 | Native apps are recent |
| Amazon Slots | No App Store listing | 1.5 | Android only |
Two patterns stand out. Review counts vary wildly: BetMGM's iPhone score rests on about 40,500 ratings, LeoVegas's on roughly 70. And Android scores trail iOS almost everywhere. Some of that is hardware; an Android app has to run on hundreds of phone models, and crashes on a five-year-old handset end up in the rating.
If you want the depth behind a single brand, our reviews of Spin Casino and Jackpot City go further than a star score can.
Royal Vegas has a 4.5-rated iPhone app, but we found no Google Play listing. Android players are sent to an APK, an installation file downloaded from the operator's own site. Nothing illegal about it, and the file comes from the registered operator. It does mean allowing your browser to install unknown apps, which is a permission you should switch back off once you're done. Only download it from the link inside the Royal Vegas site itself, never from a forum or a file-sharing page. If that sounds like a chore, the mobile site works fine. More on the brand in our Royal Vegas review.
Ruby Fortune, from the same publisher, is in a similar spot: iOS app, no Play Store listing that we could find.
The app is published by Jumpman Gaming, and it exists on Google Play only. iPhone owners play in the browser. The Android version sits at 1.5 out of 5, the lowest score we recorded.
Until April 2025 the casino lived inside theScore Bet. PENN then released a standalone theScore Casino app, which now holds 4.7 on iOS from about 1,600 ratings. Android lags at 3.3. If sports betting doesn't interest you, the dedicated app keeps the odds screens out of your way.
A fresh iOS app arrived in 2026 under the developer name Gears of Leo AB. Its 3.0 comes from around 70 reviews. That's too few to judge, so give it a few months.
Older reviews say PowerPlay had no app. That's out of date: native apps are on both stores now, rated 3.7 on iOS and 3.6 on Android.
You can live in Quebec, Michigan or Manchester and still hold an account at an Ontario casino. What you can't do is place a real-money bet from outside the province. Every regulated operator has to confirm your physical location first, and on a phone that runs through location services.
Most operators use a geolocation provider (GeoComply is the name you'll see most) that cross-checks GPS, nearby Wi-Fi networks and your IP address. On an iPhone you'll be asked to allow precise location. Say no, and the games won't open for real money. On Android, keep Google Play services up to date, since old versions can stall the check.
Border towns feel this most. Work in Gatineau and live in Ottawa, and your phone will block you at lunch and let you back in on the bus home. Windsor near the Detroit River, Kenora close to Manitoba, Sault Ste. Marie facing Michigan: same story. Wi-Fi switched on helps, even if you're not connected, because it gives the check more signals to work with.
Then there are VPNs. Geolocation software looks for them on purpose, along with location-spoofing apps and remote-desktop tools. A VPN running quietly in the background, even your employer's, is enough to get you blocked until you switch it off. Repeated failed checks can also get an account flagged for review, which is the last thing you want with a withdrawal pending.
Slots are light on data once a game has loaded, since most of the graphics download in one go. Live dealer games are another matter: you're watching a continuous video stream, and an evening of blackjack on mobile data adds up quickly. Use Wi-Fi for live tables when you can. Our live casino guide has a few stream tips.
Battery drain comes from a bright screen, video and background location checks all running at once. Dimming the screen does more than closing other apps. On older phones, the live lobby itself can make the handset run warm, which is a hint to take a break anyway.
If your sessions are mostly reels, the brand you pick matters more for its library than for its app. Our online slots guide compares game counts and the titles you'll only find at one operator.
Storage creeps up as an app caches games. Clearing the app's cache from the phone's settings every couple of months frees the space without logging you out of anything important.
Every AGCO-registered operator must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and the apps tuck them into the account menu, usually under a heading like "Responsible Gaming" or "Safer Play". A few brands add more. DraftKings has wager and time limits. bet365 offers loss limits and reality checks. LeoVegas groups its tools in a hub called LeoSafePlay.
Phones make short sessions easy, and short sessions add up without you noticing. A deposit limit takes about a minute to set, so set it the day you install, not the day you wish you had.
If gambling stops being fun, ConnexOntario takes calls around the clock at 1-866-531-2600. Our responsible gambling page lists the other options.
Yes, when the operator is registered with the AGCO and listed in the iGaming Ontario directory. An app being on the App Store or Google Play doesn't prove that, so check the operator's name in the iGO list before you deposit.
Yes. You need to be 19 or older and physically in Ontario, with location services switched on. Where you live doesn't matter. Once you cross back out of the province, real-money play stops.
The usual causes are location services denied for the app, a VPN or remote-desktop tool running, Wi-Fi switched off, or being close to the Quebec, Manitoba or US border. Fix the setting, close the VPN and try again.
The game library is usually the same, give or take a few older titles. Promotions are shown inside the app or on the operator's site once you're logged in; we don't list them here.
